Alan Waddell's 90th Birthday

Alan at the Sydney Opera House after enjoying
a performance of an updated version of Gilbert and Sullivan's
Mikado. |
With Alan at the Sydney Opera House were
David (son), Elizabeth (David's wife), John (son), Graham
(son) and Nea (family friend).
Alan celebrated his 90th birthday in July 2004 with only his
second visit to Sydney Opera House. Isn't it strange how that
building is known worldwide, and visiting tourists head for
it soon after arrival, yet many Sydney residents have rarely
or never been inside it even though it's been open for 30
years!
Before that, by the way, the site was a tram depot.
In a celebratory card game of UNO with six family and friends
after the opera, Alan's final total score was 90. What a coincidence
with which to finish the day!
Messages of congratulation were received from the Australian
Prime Minister, the Premier of the State of New South Wales,
Federal and State Members of Parliament.
Alan has also received a senior citizens
award for many years of service to the community.
